Rewards - An explanation of the Chaddesden Park Junior School Reward System.

Diamonds.
The vision of our school is of a working community where each and every member of the school works as a member of the team that is Chaddesden Park Junior school. One of the key features of the ethos of the school, is that each member of the team cares for the other. This idea of giving value to the members of the school team was extended to the team point system, when, to increase the value of team points, they were changed to Diamonds.
ACE
The Ace of Diamonds has been reproduced in credit card form and each member of the school is given their own membership card to keep as a reminder of the school aims;

This emphasises the fact that the children are valued as diamonds are.
The team names are Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire and Topaz (precious gems). Words associated with precious gems are used to reinforce the idea throughout the school. (Brilliant, sparkling, priceless etc.)
Each week, in each class, the diamonds for each team are tallied. The teams are then given “School Diamonds” to count towards their teams’ weekly total. The winners in the classes receive four points, the second place three and so on.
The school diamonds are then totalled to give a weekly winning team which is entered onto a chart displayed in the school hall.
Each half term a trophy is presented to the winning team overall. The reason for doing this is to maintain the competitive spirit, as the teams are usually fairly evenly matched, over what is a relatively short space of time.
The effect of the introduction of this system has been incredible. The children are very enthusiastic and very supportive of each other. They are keen to collect as many diamonds as they can for their team and the announcement of the weeks winning team is still anxiously awaited.
In order to further foster the team spirit at Chaddesden Park, several team events are organised during the school year. As well as the annual sports day, the children are able to take part in both football and tag rugby tournaments. There are also one or more days, when the children spend the whole of their time in their teams, working together across the age ranges on a variety of tasks. This may be during World Book Day or a study of World Culture and Art.
As well as Diamonds the children are able to receive stickers for outstanding work, which go towards a Head Teachers Certificate when 30 stickers have been collected. This is presented in front of Parents/Carers at the weekly Show and Tell Assembly.
In addition to this, the children who behave well during the week are able to earn a raffle ticket, which is placed in the school tombola drum. Every half term the draw is made and the first ticket out of the drum earns a £15 voucher for one of the children. There are always a number of other prizes to reward good behaviour. Staff often donate these prizes.
Exceptional behaviour or kindness is recorded in the schools Gold Book. This is recognised during the regular Show and Tell assemblies when the children receive a Gold Card and in addition their parents are notified by post.
